Art for Instagram Sake

I lived in Mexico City for the first half of 2019 working on a documentary series. While I was there, I attended ZONAMACO and Material Art Fair — global art trade shows. A lot of art shows end up being an opportunistic backdrop for Insta-Art and selfie art for Instagram. I wasn’t above such behavior. My selfies remain in my iPhone album, but this picture capturing these girls taking their Instagram pictures was a fantastic voyeuristic moment to observe. I just love how each of them stand independently focused on their own little screen and themself, but as a group collective. Very 21st century tech and culture. I think we’ve all had moments where we stopped to recognize how insane we are with our phones, these little screens and forgetting about the rest of the world around us. Guilty over here!
